Simplifying chemistry via precision synthesis
My name is Josué (pronounced “Hoh-swe”) and I am a synthetic chemist.
My research focuses on discovering and developing efficient synthetic methods that enable the formation of functional π-conjugated organic materials that display suitable optoelectronic properties. To this end, I design, use and advance sophisticated tools from organic and organometallic chemistry which enable the preparation of linear and cyclic conjugated polymers. These macromolecular scaffolds are then incorporated in supramolecular chemistry and flexible organic electronic applications.
I envision that these sound synthetic methods will translate into the reproducible and scalable preparation of functional and precise organic architectures, e.g., π-conjugated polymers, macrocycles, and single-molecules. Likewise, they will contribute to the advancement of sustainable materials, sensors, displays and energy solutions, such as the long desired flexible organic solar cells/organic photovoltaics (OSCs/OPVs), dye-sensitised solar cells (DSSCs), organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), electrochromic devices (ECDs), etc., via rational design.
